French Toast Breakfast Sandwich

This tasty Panini Style French Toast breakfast sandwich is so easy to make. You can prepare them ahead of time, and have them ready to just warm up and go. These are great when you need a quick breakfast and have no time for the drive thru lane! Additionally, there are so many variations to these that the possibilities are endless.

I am usually only cooking for myself, and maybe one other person. So I love things that I can either make up ahead of time, or that are easy to make in small quantities. This is a perfect recipe for that! For this, I also get to use my George Forman grill, that I recently decided was an excellent kitchen power tool! I used to think it could only be used for steak, burgers, or chicken. But then I found that it is an excellent choice for making toasted or grilled sandwiches, and it give them the “panini” look!

Note that some of the sandwich ingredients may need to be pre-cooked, since the bread is likely to be over-toasted before the egg or meat is fully cooked. While you are pre-cooking the egg and sausage, you can warm up your George Forman grill so it is ready to go.

Ingredients for French Toast Breakfast Sandwich

  • 2 pieces French Toast – either made fresh or frozen
  • 1 egg
  • Chopped green pepper
  • Chopped onions
  • 1 sausage patty
  • 1 slice of Colby Jack cheese or whatever you prefer

Many people think that bacon is the “duct tape” of food. Personally, I think that cheese is the “duct tape” of food. This is because it can melt and hold everything together.

Directions

Pre-cooking the Egg and Sausage

I use an egg ring to pre-cook the egg. Depending on your preference, it can be scrambled or even fried. Personally, I like mine scrambled. So, all you need to do is take the egg, add a little milk and stir it up. Then just pour it into the egg ring, and let it cook. I add the vegetables into the egg mix and cook it altogether. Just like a mini omelet, and add as many vegetables as you like.

I also cook the sausage ahead of time. You can also use an egg ring for this, and that will make it the same size as the egg.

The final assembly

Here we go! Take the pieces of French toast and butter them on one side. Place one piece butter side down in the grill. Next add your sausage patty, egg, and the slice of cheese on the toast. Now take the other piece and place it on top, with the butter side up.

Close the grill and give it 3-5 minutes to cook. Just make sure the toast is not overdone. Then pull it out, and ENJOY!

Variations on the French Toast Breakfast Sandwich

Note that this is not a completely scientific recipe! Add the amount of ingredients based on your preference. The same goes with any of the variations you choose.

  • Substitute Ham or bacon for the sausage, or simply add it on for a meat lovers variation.
  • You can also use any type of bread instead of the French toast.
  • Use your preference for cheese, or leave it out altogether. You could also use shredded cheese and put some between each layer.
  • You may also add or substitute any other vegetables to the mix, such as chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, or red or yellow pepper. Use your imagination.
  • Salsa can also add a little spice to the meal.

Don’t forget the Wine

Discoveries Moscato to enjoy with french toast breakfast sandwich

I am choosing to pair this with our own Discoveries Moscato from our Wine Discovery Club. Moscato wine is a lighter white wine that is a little bit sweet, with some fruit flavors. It typically pairs well with appetizers or desserts, and seemed like a good choice for brunch. But mostly I chose it because it is one of my favorites!
