So people create new events all the time. Just the other day I was listening to the radio, and they were talking about the eating contest record holder!!! Since when did that become a sport? Have you heard of a Greek by the name of Pheidippides? Well, he was a courier that ran from Marathon to Athens, Greece to tell them about the victory in the battle at Marathon, Greece. This was around 500 BC, so that was the only way to deliver the news. Now, how far do you think it is from Marathon to Athens? Hmmmm. About 26.2 miles!!! So you see, we love to make events out of the physical drive we all have, and many more people remain participants well into their later years.
